6th International Symposium on Patient Powered Safety

World Patient Safety Day 2023 had the theme “Engaging patients for patient safety”:
What does this mean for patients, families, clinicians, (engineers and researchers) in 2024? We are inviting you to meet patient safety experts and those affected and discuss barriers and opportunities for safer care. The meeting is hybrid, two of the sessions will be available online.

1. Safety of Healthcare from the patient’s perspective
Dr Henrietta Hughes, the English Patient Safety Commissioner will share her hopes for change through
Martha’s rule, and we will hear about examples of UK implementations and of the national Kōrero mai (‘Talk to me’) initiative from New Zealand.

2. Live demos of new patient held apps !
Hands on workshop with developers of apps to call for help in hospital, to navigate the risk of chronic chest-illness or to share life-saving information with teams from health and social care.

3. New international research & best practice examples
Speakers from Norway, Netherlands, UK and US: Patients completing surgical checklists, supporting recovery from operations, escalating care or documenting their progress in hospital.
