MediWales will be holding their annual Members Showcase in collaboration with Sony UK Technology Centre on the 23rd September.

There will be an opportunity for members to present their projects, demonstrate their technology and share their latest news at our showcase event, alongside MediWales members and the wider life science community.

Throughout the day, there will be plenty of opportunities to learn more about the work that Sony UK Technology Centre does. Delegates will be able to participate in tours of the facility, including their 2ICCare Demo Room and IoT Lab.

With exhibition and presentation opportunities available, this event is the perfect way to engage with the life science community in Wales, find new collaborative partners and build working relationships. Delegates expected to attend include industry, NHS, university partners and business support.

The Members Showcase is free to all MediWales members, with opportunities to attend, present and exhibit.

Factory tour
Step inside and discover how innovation, technology and people come together at Sony UK Technology Centre to deliver world-class electronics to global markets.

From Sony’s proud Royal connections and 50+ years of manufacturing in Wales, to the cutting-edge technology behind today’s products, the tour offers a unique behind-the-scenes look at modern manufacturing.

Discover how Sony broadcast cameras used at major international supporting events are expertly assembled, precisely aligned and tested, as well as the advanced engineering behind the manufacturing process of Raspberry Pi products and other innovative electronics.

Throughout the tour, you will see examples of collaborative robots, Surface Mount Technology, optical alignment processes, automated testing and packaging, and other solutions developed by Sony’s engineering teams.

You will also gain insight into how the facility is reducing its environmental impact through solar energy, sustainable practices, biodiversity initiatives and smarter packaging, while supporting the local community through education, STEM programmes and volunteering.

Whether your interest lies in technology, manufacturing, engineering or sustainability, or you are simply curious about what happens behind the scenes – the Factory Tour offers a compelling insight into how ideas become products, and how a team in Wales delivers them to markets worldwide.

IOT Training Lab
The IOT Training Lab at Sony UK Technology Centre is where much of the site’s IOT/AI R&D takes place.

This facility was originally created to support the research and development of Sony’s IMX500 chip, but its purpose has since expanded.

You will have the chance to see examples and case studies covering image classification, object detection, pixel-level semantic segmentation and pose detection. Your presenter will explain how these technologies are applied in real-world settings.
