SUMMARY:The Office of the Chief Scientific Adviser for Wales & The Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) - Oncology Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Background \nDuring a visit by ABPI Executive Director of Research\, Medical and Innovation Dr Virginia Acha\, to Cardiff last year she met with Professor Julie Williams\, Welsh Government Chief Scientific Advisor (CSA). They agreed\, alongside Dr Rick Greville\, ABPI Director for Wales and Distribution & Supply\, to test a research and development workshop format\, where invited guests hear directly from researchers in Wales in a number of specific research areas. \nIt was decided that neuroscience would be the first area\, due to the CSA’s interest and expertise\, alongside that of the wider Wales academic base and this workshop was held in February last year.  Due to its success\, it was decided that it would be repeated in a second therapy area\, Oncology. \nOncology Workshop 2017 \nBuilding on the success of 2016\, we are delighted that this years’ Oncology Workshop is being run in conjunction with The Wales Cancer Partnership. \nConfirmed speakers to date are: \n\nProfessor John Chester\, Director of the Wales Cancer Research Centre\nDr Phil Webb\, Associate Director of Planning and Performance\, Velindre NHS Trust\nDr John Staffurth\, Wales Cancer Research Centre and Director of Radiotherapy Trials and Clinical Reader in Oncology\, Velindre Cancer Centre\nDr Steve Paisley\, Pre-Clinical Facilities Manager\, Wales Research and Diagnostic PET Imaging Centre\nProfessor Steve Conlan\, Professor of Molecular and Cell Biology\, Head of Reproductive Biology and Gynaecological Oncology Research\, Director of Strategic Partnerships for the College\, and Director of the Centre for NanoHealth\, Swansea University\nDr Rob Jone\, Clinical Lead in Early Phase Trials\, Velindre Cancer Centre\n\nFor more information and to register please click here.
