SUMMARY:ABHI Regulatory Conference 2019
DESCRIPTION:MDR: Risk Management as a Key Regulatory Tool \nUsing Clinical Data and Postmarket Surveillance to drive Compliance \nThis year’s ABHI flagship conference will focus on the use of risk management as an essential part of the medical device regulatory process. The event will draw on the use of clinical data and postmarket surveillance and their role in effective risk management and how the ISO 14971 standard fits into the overall quality management system for medical devices. \nThere will be a broad range of speakers from industry\, regulators\, notified bodies and a Keynote Address from John Round\, Head of Airspace\, Air Traffic Management and Aerodromes at the Civil Aviation Authority. John will provide a different perspective on the use of risk management techniques in a safety-critical industry. \nOnce again\, this will be an event not to be missed as companies\, notified bodies and regulators move ever closer to full implementation of the Medical Device Regulation. \nIt is also planned to cover Brexit in whatever form is appropriate at the time – watch this space! \n“Some risks that are thought to be unknown\, are not unknown. With some foresight and critical thought\, some risks that at first glance may seem unforeseen\, can in fact be foreseen. Armed with the right set of tools\, procedures\, knowledge and insight\, light can be shed on variables that lead to risk\, allowing us to manage them.” \n― Daniel Wagner \nCEO of Country Risk Solutions\, Connecticut. SUMMARY:ISCF Application of whole Genome Sequencing approaches to Cancer
DESCRIPTION:The aim of this competition is to support projects that use whole genome sequencing to analyse cancers.\n\n\n\n\nInnovate UK\, part of UK Research and Innovation\, will invest up to £5.4 million of the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund as part of the Data to Early Diagnosis and Precision Medicine Challenge. \nApplications can be made for both feasibility and collaborative projects lasting up to 18 months and with maximum eligible costs of £1m. \nThe aim of this competition\, which opens on 7 October and closes on 22 January is to support projects that use whole genome sequencing to analyse cancers. This can be through the manipulation of existing whole genome data\, through the collection of new sequence data or through a combination of both. \nPossible approaches include but are not limited to: \n• the development of new analytical or reporting tools for clinical decision support\n• the identification of molecular signatures that allow for new or improved targeting of therapies\n• the identification of new therapeutic targets\n• new genetic signatures that can be used clinically\, such as markers that support repurposing of drugs or a personalised approach to patient management\n• the comparative assessment of alternative assay methods in parallel with whole genome sequencing \n  \nApplications that apply other forms of genetic analysis\, including gene panels or arrays\, in isolation will not be eligible for funding. \n  \nIf you are interest in learning more about this ISCF competition\, register here to attend the briefing event that will be held in Birmingham on the 30th of October. \nNot able to attend? This event will also be available via webcast and you can register to join online here. \nFind the slides from all KTN webcasts via Slideshare. \nYou can view the full competition page here. \n  \nFollow the link below for the full event agenda and registration. \n\n\nREGISTER

SUMMARY:Preparing your NHS Business Case
DESCRIPTION:This interactive and informative event on ‘Preparing your NHS Business Case’ will enable you to prepare better business cases with input from the EMAHSN staff. \nThis free to attend event is being held as part of the ACTIS programme – a project part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund\, click here to be re-directed to further information about the project. \nDuring the event you will also learn about: \n– What is a business case\, what is its purpose and why it is so important? \n– Who reviews the business case and how are they evaluated from a commissioning point of view? \n– How to construct a good business case \nThe Challenge as a supplier to the NHS is often that when you have a product which from your perspective improves patient outcomes and saves cost you still cannot get it adopted by the NHS. This is often because there is not a fully developed business case\, without this a group within the NHS interested in taking on board a new product or service are unlikely to get approval of the case for change before procurement of the innovation can proceed. \nOrganisations that supply to the NHS are often challenged by the process\, timescales\, evidence and documentary requirements. This can often seem like an unnecessary complication\, or simply a reason to not issue a purchase order. A good business case is fundamental to successful adoption and developing a long term business partnership. Preparing the business case can also be difficult for your NHS contacts because they are busy or not experienced in their preparation and often even more difficult for companies with little or no experience of the process. \nProgramme \nSpeaker Profiles \nPlaces are restricted to one delegate per organisation only.  \n  \nBook Now \n  \nNon-Attendance: should you book on Medilink East Midlands events and fail to attend on two occasions without letting us know\, we reserve the right to refuse to accept bookings from your organisation in the future.

SUMMARY:In Vitro Diagnostic (IVD) New IVDR CE Marking Workshop
DESCRIPTION:SEHTA and Psephos Biomedica are running their next workshop on IVD New IVDR CE Marking. \nThis seminar will provide you insights into the key regulatory changes of the IVDR\, to help you to prepare your organisation and your devices for IVDR compliance. \nDate:  Thursday 21st November 2019 \nVenue:  Hempsons\, 100 Wood Street\, London\, EC2V 7AN \nTime:  10:30 – 15.30 \nCost:  SEHTA members fee: £240 + VAT / Non-Members: £280 + VAT per delegate \nNot a member of SEHTA?  It’s free to join – just click here \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Invitro Diagnostic Regulations are in transition and companies need to understand and prepare for these significant changes.  Attendees will gain an understanding of: \n\nThe new IVD regulations (EU 2017/746)\, Device Classification and Key Time Lines\nSignificant differences between the current directive (98/79/EC) and the new IVD Regulations\nThe role and status of Notified Bodies\nOutline of the Technical Documentation including Labelling and EUDAMED\nOutline of the Quality System requirements\nOutline of the Performance requirements/Clinical evidence\nOutline of Post Market Surveillance requirements\nInteract with fellow practitioners and presenter during the Q&A\n\nThe European Union’s Regulation on IVD medical devices 2017/746 (IVDR) came into force on 25 May 2017 and is currently in implementation. It will replace Directive 98/79/EC on IVD medical devices (IVDD) and there are only 2 ½ years left until the end of the transition. \nManufacturers of new IVD devices and devices currently approved under the current Directive will have to comply to IVDR from May 2022 onwards. This means they must comply with the new conformity assessment procedure for their device and quality system in order to CE-mark their devices and place them on the EU market. For products currently certified by a notified body – provided certain MDR requirements are met – the transition period may be extended until 26 May 2024. \nNew or stricter requirements of the IVDR will be challenging and have a significant impact on manufacturers and all other stakeholders. Changes affect areas such as classification of IVD devices\, conformity assessment procedures\, performance/clinical evidence\, post market surveillance\, labelling and registration. \nThe majority of devices will be reclassified and require Notified Body conformity assessment. For existing IVD manufacturers to meet the May 2022 deadline they will need to understand what is required and have a plan to address their current gap. For new manufacturers and devices understanding the new timelines\, resourcing and expertise requirements will be crucial to success. \nNot for: Pharma this is IVD Only. \n  \nTarget Market:  Executives\, product owners\, medical officers\, regulatory and quality specialists within a company that need to understand the overall requirements for their Invitro Diagnostic Devices to enable them to place a device on the market and to maintain access. SUMMARY:The Future of Care: How could robotics and autonomous systems change frontline health and social care?
DESCRIPTION:In the next in our series of ‘Future of Care’ events\, we’ll guide health and care professionals through the latest developments and future opportunities to separate the fact from the fiction. \nWe’ll explore how robotic technologies and autonomous systems provide very real opportunities to change the way we deliver frontline services across all aspects of health and social care. This could be through physical assistive robotics technology supporting rehabilitation\, independent living or improve patient ability and comfort\, or social robots providing cognitive support and enabling social interaction for people who are living alone. \nCan robotics really fulfil all these needs? What are the challenges of implementation? How will robotics impact the way staff work and the type of workforce we need? Do we need to consider the ethical and social issues surrounding the use of this technology? Come along to find out the answers and to pose your own questions. \nFollowing the event\, you’ll have the opportunity to tour the Bristol Robotics Laboratory at the University of the West of England. Places are limited so early booking is recommended. \nConfirmed speakers: \nRobotics in social care: A connected care ecosystem for independent living\, Praminda Caleb-Solly\nSafety of Physically assistive robotics\, Sanja Dogramadzi\nRehabilitatoin Robotics\, Dr Manoj Sivan\nEthical issues in the use of robotic and asistive technology\, Marina Jirotka & Alan Winfield\nA scoping study on the emerging use of Artificial Intelligence & robotics in social care\, Jim Thomas and Diane Buddery \nFor more information and to register click here.

SUMMARY:Precision Medicine: Connecting Industries to UK Excellence
DESCRIPTION:Innovate UK\, KTN & the Precision Medicines Centres of Excellence Network will be hosting an event on Precision Medicine on 30th Jan in London. \nThe UK has embarked on a very ambitious journey to become the home of Precision Medicine. This journey started in 2010 when the precursor to Innovate UK\, the Technology Strategy Board\, and a consortium of Governmental bodies and charities funded the Stratified Medicine Innovation Platform Programme Coordination Group. This was followed a year later with  the publication of a Technology Roadmap\, which identified thematic areas which would need to be addressed to accelerate the research\, development and uptake of stratified medicine in the UK. \nSince then\, millions of pounds have been invested by the UK government in infrastructure and programmes to accelerate the adoption of Precision Medicine into clinical practice.  The UK Government Industrial Strategy identified health data and genomics as key to the development of precision medicine. Furthermore\, the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund invested £210 million to the sector via the Data to Early Diagnosis and Precision Medicine Challenge theme. \nInnovate UK regards Precision Medicine as being any technology that can enable early and accurate diagnosis to inform patient management or selection of therapy. It has historically liaised with six Centres of Excellence in Precision Medicine around the UK with the aim of helping to align existing assets and initiatives in order to enhance the development of new pathways\, products and services and to facilitate their integration within the healthcare system. \nThese Precision Medicine Centres of Excellence – that are based in England\, Wales\, Scotland and Northern Ireland – have been working towards a strategy to ensure that this UK resource is spread across the country and can be accessed by industry and research organisation alike for the benefit of patients. \nOn the 30th of January 2020\, Innovate UK and the Knowledge Transfer Network are collaborating with the PM Centres of Excellence Network to deliver an event at Stamford Bridge in London showcasing existing capability and assets that reside in the UK. This event will also open up the conversation to ensure  other groups working in Precision Medicine in the UK also have a platform to highlight their skills and capabilities. Alison Cave (ISCF Director: Accelerating Detection of Disease at Innovate UK) will be providing the keynote speech. \nFind out more here
