DESCRIPTION:Are you an SME? Do you hold confidential customer data? Do you work within the government supply chain? \nDo you ever use public WiFi? Ever wondered if it is secure? Do you allow staff to “Bring their own Devices” to work? \nDo you use social media? What sort of footprint are you leaving behind? \nHow secure is your password? Do you use the same password in multiple places? \nIf the answer is yes to any of these then…come along on the 28th of January to learn more about Cyber Security and how you can protect yourself and your business. \nThe work shop will be presented by Chris Benson of CIT Cyber\, ex-military data security specialist and secular professional. Chris spent over 10 years in the military working specifically on data security. Along with this high level military experience Chris has held senior roles at BT\, NTT (Japanese version of BT) and Nokia. How to offer free wi-fi to your staff and customers whilst protecting your business\, best practice advice. How safe is public wi-fi? \n2. How to protect your own and your customers data. \n3. What sort of secure authentication you should be using. \n4. How to protect your business from internal  and external threats. \n5. What should I do if I am subject to a data breach or think I have been? \n  \nThis NVI Wales event is in partnership with Techhub Swansea. \nThis mentor session is free to attend for life science and ICT start ups and SMEs and is organised by NVI Wales part of the National Virtual Incubator Network and supported by the Welsh Government. \nFor more information click here.

SUMMARY:Swansea University: ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) Workshop
DESCRIPTION:‘Inspiring the Deepest Kindness: ACT\, Self-Care\, and Self-Compassion’ \nSwansea University is pleased to host a two day workshop delivered by Professor Kelly G. Wilson\, Ph.D.\, University of Mississippi and sponsored by UK Society for Behaviour Analysis. Type 2 BACB credits available. \nWhat is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy? \nAcceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is an evidence-based treatment with over 130 randomised clinical trials. ACT is grounded in emerging clinical science that demonstrates the broad utility of mindfulness and values in human wellbeing. ACT is a hybrid therapy\, bringing together aspects of mindfulness\, Gestalt therapy\, and humanist-existential thought\, all organised under a contemporary contextual behavioral framework. The paradox upon which ACT is founded is that radical acceptance of what cannot be changed empowers us to recognise and change the things that we can. The ACT approach is about embracing necessary suffering in order to make more committed\, life-affirming choices and live in accordance with deeply held personal values. \nDay 1 will focus on self-care and self-compassion from an ACT Perspective from 9.30am – 4.30pm \nThe modern world has eliminated many sources of suffering. We seldom die from cholera or smallpox. In the developed world we die from the stressors: obesity\, diabetes\, high blood pressure\, cardiovascular disease\, and cerebrovascular disease. We drink\, eat poorly\, and are often chronically sleep deprived. We stress out. We stress about war\, the economy\, work\, relationships\, the past\, and the future. We stress about our ability to tolerate stress! All this stress takes a toll on our bodies\, but not just our bodies. \nThis workshop will briefly introduce well-established life-style factors that contribute to depression\, anxiety and many other forms of mental illness. It will introduce small changes by which every person\, no matter how ill\, no matter what circumstance\, can begin a steady program of harm reduction that makes more abundant living possible. \nHealth care is stressful work. Health care workers need a life hack too! This will not be an abstract examination of factors. This work will show how these life-style changes can destress both healthcare workers and their clients. Day one of this workshop will not be a mere academic endeavor. It will examine the special place of self-care in the Acceptance and Commitment Therapy model and will be experiential from start to finish. \nDay 2 will focus on the Application of the ACT Model to Addiction and Co-Occurring Disorders from 9.30am – 3.30pm \nDay two will bring the tools acquired on day one\, along with the full ACT model\, to bear directly on clients with addiction and co-occurring psychological disorders. ACT provides a trans-diagnostic model. It will introduce new worksheets and interviews that can be used with a wide variety of client difficulties. The workshop will be experiential in focus and will provide a set of tools and skills that participants will be prepared to use immediately following the workshop. It will show how the interface between mindfulness and values work in ACT can promote life enhancing change and powerful therapeutic alliance. \nThe Presenter \nKelly G. Wilson\, Ph.D.\, is an Professor of Psychology at the University at Mississippi and directs the University of Mississippi Center for Contextual Psychology. He is Past President of the Association for Contextual Behavioral Science\, Representative-at-Large of the Society for a Science of Clinical Psychology\, and is one of the co-developers of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Dr. Wilson has devoted himself to the development and dissemination of ACT and its underlying theory and philosophy for 25 years\, publishing 54 articles\, 36 chapters\, and 10 books including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy 2ed\, Mindfulness for Two: The Place of Mindfulness in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy\, and his most recent effort The Wisdom to Know the Difference: An Acceptance and Commitment Therapy Workbook for Overcoming Substance Abuse.  He has central interests in the application of behavioral principles to understanding topics such as purpose\, meaning\, values\, therapeutic relationship\, and mindfulness.  Dr. Wilson has presented workshops in 32 countries\, and has participated as co-investigator in a wide range of research projects in the U.S. and around the world. \nFull Rate – £250\nReduced Rate – £210 for Swansea University Staff\, ABMU staff\, UK SBA members\, ACBS members\, BABCP members\nStudent Rate – £160 \nRegister here

SUMMARY:NVI Wales: Meet the Expert - Biotech IP Lunch & Learn Workshop
DESCRIPTION:This is an interactive seminar for companies who are active within the biotech industry\, which will explore how to use the IP system e.g. patent system to the advantage of your business. \nIn particular\, the seminar will explain the types of biotech inventions that can\, and importantly cannot be patented\, which can vary according to the country. The seminar will also briefly discuss how patents can add value to your business\, and be used against others. We will describe the value of performing diligent prior art searching and\, where necessary “path clearing” action in respect of third party patent rights. \nFinally\, we will briefly explain how the European patent system is changing\, and for a transitional period there will be a choice of how to obtain patent protection across the whole of Europe – European Unitary Patent. \nWe intend for the seminar to be a discussion rather than a lecture and will therefore invite attendees to make comments and ask questions during the seminar. \nSeminar mentors \n\nDr Stoyan Radkov (sar@udl.co.uk); and\nDr Simon Mitchell (sjm@udl.co.uk)\nUrquhart-Dykes & Lord LLP\, London\n\nLearning objectives \nBy the end of the workshop\, delegates should have better understanding of: \n–          The types of biotech inventions that can be patented \n–          How to obtain patent protection in the UK\, Europe and farther afield \n–          How patents can be used to commercial advantage \n–          How to avoid problems with third party rights \n–          Whether the European Unitary Patent is for you \nParticipating venues: \nThis event will be hosted at the Welsh Node in Swansea University and live streamed to NVI Nodes in Digital Greenwich and Manchester Science Partnerships.  Please indicate on your booking which venue you wish to attend. \nThis mentor session is free to attend for life science and ICT start ups and SMEs and is organised by NVI Wales part of the National Virtual Incubator Network and supported by the Welsh Government. \nFor more information click here.
