SUMMARY:Food Supplements Special Interest Group (SIG)
DESCRIPTION:Cannabidiol (CBD) – Pandora’s Box? A status update \nCannabidiol (CBD) continues to make headlines\, whether as the next big thing in food and drink or being the centre of controversy. In Jan 2019 a change in the status of CBD on the Novel Food Union List caused ripples across the wellness sector. No definitive position has yet to be agreed\, with trade associations lobbying hard both within UK and Europe. Whilst we are unlikely to have all the answers\, there will be external speakers present. There may be some resolution\, but we don’t have a crystal ball. It’s a great opportunity to meet like minds and be informed about this growing sector. \nThis free to attend event is held as part of the INSTILS programme – a project part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund\, click here to be re-directed to further information about the project. \nProgramme \nBook Now \n  \nPlease note: spaces are limited\, preference will be given to SMEs

SUMMARY:Preparing your NHS Business Case
DESCRIPTION:This interactive and informative event on ‘Preparing your NHS Business Case’ will enable you to prepare better business cases with input from the EMAHSN staff. \nThis free to attend event is being held as part of the SoLSTICE programme – a project part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund\, click here to be re-directed to further information about the project. \nDuring the event you will also learn about: \n– What is a business case\, what is its purpose and why it is so important? \n– Who reviews the business case and how are they evaluated from a commissioning point of view? \n– How to construct a good business case \nThe Challenge as a supplier to the NHS is often that when you have a product which from your perspective improves patient outcomes and saves cost you still cannot get it adopted by the NHS. This is often because there is not a fully developed business case\, without this a group within the NHS interested in taking on board a new product or service are unlikely to get approval of the case for change before procurement of the innovation can proceed. \nOrganisations that supply to the NHS are often challenged by the process\, timescales\, evidence and documentary requirements. This can often seem like an unnecessary complication\, or simply a reason to not issue a purchase order. A good business case is fundamental to successful adoption and developing a long term business partnership. Preparing the business case can also be difficult for your NHS contacts because they are busy or not experienced in their preparation and often even more difficult for companies with little or no experience of the process. \nDue to limited seating numbers are restricted to one delegate per organisation. \nProgramme \nSpeaker Profiles \nBook Now

SUMMARY:NEWS in your community: monitoring and supporting patients across all healthcare settings
DESCRIPTION:MediWales is collaborating with the West of England Academic Health Science Network (AHSN) to deliver this conference which will focus on monitoring and supporting patients outside the hospital setting (at home\, in nursing and care homes) to specifically enable the measurement of vital signs to calculate a Nation Early Warning Score (NEWS) which is used when delivering care. \nFree delegate places are available to NHS professionals\, research and industry communities\, from both sides of the bridge. We would also like to extend an invitation to companies who have or are developing various approaches to track vital signs. Though this is not about intensive care monitoring – during the event it will be considered how these tools could be used in a community setting. This would include the recording of observations\, dashboards\, wearable devices\, remote monitoring\, devices that aid recording of observation or identifying deterioration with a particular interest in wearable and non-contact tech for those with Learning Disabilities. \nThis event will discuss the challenges and technical issues faced in the community care setting and look at the development of potential clinical / industry collaborations to address the issues in this area. There will also be information on the support and funding available to take projects forward. \nHear from speakers from the AHSN who will present their work on the National Early Warning Score (NEWS) and from Welsh clinical colleagues who will showcase their plan going forward. An insightful look at where automation of technologies and clinical pathways could be accessible to improve an ever evolving process. \nWho is this event for? \n60 – 80 delegates\, NHS\, research and industry communities \n Objectives of the event: \n\nDiscuss the challenges and technical issues\nLook at development of potential clinical/ industry collaborations to address the issues in this area\nInformation on support and funding available to take projects forward\n\nProgramme: \nDelegate Information\nMediWales & West of England Collaboration Event \nWe are looking forward to welcoming you to ‘NEWS in your community’. Please see below the relevant information for the upcoming event.\n\nVenue\nCeltic Manor Golf Club – Augusta Suite\nColdra Woods\nNewport\nNP18 1HQ\n\nDirections & Parking\nDetails on directions to the venue and parking information can be found here.Free parking for the Golf Club is available in the Golf Academy Car parkTimings\nRegistrations begins at 8.30am and the opening introduction starts at 9.30am. SUMMARY:ABHI Regulatory Conference 2019
DESCRIPTION:MDR: Risk Management as a Key Regulatory Tool \nUsing Clinical Data and Postmarket Surveillance to drive Compliance \nThis year’s ABHI flagship conference will focus on the use of risk management as an essential part of the medical device regulatory process. The event will draw on the use of clinical data and postmarket surveillance and their role in effective risk management and how the ISO 14971 standard fits into the overall quality management system for medical devices. \nThere will be a broad range of speakers from industry\, regulators\, notified bodies and a Keynote Address from John Round\, Head of Airspace\, Air Traffic Management and Aerodromes at the Civil Aviation Authority. John will provide a different perspective on the use of risk management techniques in a safety-critical industry. \nOnce again\, this will be an event not to be missed as companies\, notified bodies and regulators move ever closer to full implementation of the Medical Device Regulation. \nIt is also planned to cover Brexit in whatever form is appropriate at the time – watch this space! \n“Some risks that are thought to be unknown\, are not unknown. With some foresight and critical thought\, some risks that at first glance may seem unforeseen\, can in fact be foreseen. Armed with the right set of tools\, procedures\, knowledge and insight\, light can be shed on variables that lead to risk\, allowing us to manage them.” \n― Daniel Wagner \nCEO of Country Risk Solutions\, Connecticut. SUMMARY:ISCF Application of whole Genome Sequencing approaches to Cancer
DESCRIPTION:The aim of this competition is to support projects that use whole genome sequencing to analyse cancers.\n\n\n\n\nInnovate UK\, part of UK Research and Innovation\, will invest up to £5.4 million of the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund as part of the Data to Early Diagnosis and Precision Medicine Challenge. \nApplications can be made for both feasibility and collaborative projects lasting up to 18 months and with maximum eligible costs of £1m. \nThe aim of this competition\, which opens on 7 October and closes on 22 January is to support projects that use whole genome sequencing to analyse cancers. This can be through the manipulation of existing whole genome data\, through the collection of new sequence data or through a combination of both. \nPossible approaches include but are not limited to: \n• the development of new analytical or reporting tools for clinical decision support\n• the identification of molecular signatures that allow for new or improved targeting of therapies\n• the identification of new therapeutic targets\n• new genetic signatures that can be used clinically\, such as markers that support repurposing of drugs or a personalised approach to patient management\n• the comparative assessment of alternative assay methods in parallel with whole genome sequencing \n  \nApplications that apply other forms of genetic analysis\, including gene panels or arrays\, in isolation will not be eligible for funding. \n  \nIf you are interest in learning more about this ISCF competition\, register here to attend the briefing event that will be held in Birmingham on the 30th of October. \nNot able to attend? This event will also be available via webcast and you can register to join online here. \nFind the slides from all KTN webcasts via Slideshare. \nYou can view the full competition page here. \n  \nFollow the link below for the full event agenda and registration. \n\n\nREGISTER
