SUMMARY:NVI Wales: IoT / IoE – Peer to Peer
DESCRIPTION:Expand your network\, meet and chat with fellow IOT/IOE-ists over the NVI Network \nFirst we had the Internet of Things (IOT) – the connection of physical objects or “things” to the internet: smartphones\, tablets\, alarm clocks\, toasters;  now we have the tsunami that is the ‘Internet of Everything’  (IOE)\,  the connection of people\, processes\, data and objects to the internet\, adding incremental value and transforming things at a holistic level i.e. smart cities.  So having a sensor in a recycling bin helps to connect the bin (IOT) but having that as part of a broader smart network that helps to connect information from that bin to recycling plants which is then used to determine collection routes for recycling vans across a city that can be updated in real time.  The magnitude of the opportunity here is huge! \nWe’d love to hear what opportunities and challenges IOE presents for YOU!  There is a massive community of like-minded folks working in the IOT/IOE space out there… here’s the opportunity to talk to some of your peers from across the UK. \nWhat tips can you give each other? What are the new trends within the field that you could capitalise on? What funding sources are available and how can you access them? What hurdles have you and others faced and overcome? \nCome along to the National Virtual Incubator (NVI) ‘peer to peer’ session and chat – across high definition Cisco video conferencing kit – to other IOT/IOE-ists. The 45 minute session will allow for short introductions and time for questions/answers.  \nPlaces are limited to a maximum of 5 businesses per venue/node – so pre-registration is essential. \nClick here to register for the Welsh Node (at Swansea University) \nAgenda:\n14.30 pm: Registration and local intros.\n14.45 pm: Live session across the various NVI Nodes.\n15.30 pm: Session closes \nSome food for thought: \n\nWhat are the top three challenges that you need to overcome to maximise the market opportunity in IOE?  What challenges do you have in selling analytics based solutions to retailers?\nWhat do you think the killer application could be for IOE?\nWhat help do you need to accelerate your  IOT/IOE offering\nIn what verticals are you seeing with most traction?\nWhat tech players\, apart from Cisco\, are leading in your view on IOT/IOE vision / delivery?\n And now for some fun: What thing not connected would you like to see connected?

SUMMARY:KTN: Internet of Things £10M Cities Demonstrator - Cardiff Briefing
DESCRIPTION:IoT Cities £10m Demonstrator \nThe Internet of Things (IoT)\, where everyday objects are connected to networks enabling their data to be shared\, is a major area of growth for the global economy. These technologies underpin ‘smart’ services that have a transformative effect on society\, particularly in the urban environment\, allowing cities better to meet the needs of citizens. \nThe Department for Culture\, Media and Sport (DCMS) is to invest up to £10 million* in a single collaborative R&D project to demonstrate the capability of the Internet of Things (IoT) in a city region. This competition (delivered by Innovate UK on behalf of DCMS) is part of a wider £40 million government investment in IoT announced in March 2015. \nThe aim of this demonstrator is to show how the large-scale deployment of IoT – where everyday objects are connected to a network in order to share their data – can benefit citizens by offering environmental improvements\, economic opportunities\, and more efficient and effective delivery of services such as transport\, healthcare and energy. \nProjects must be collaborative and led by a local authority or local enterprise partnership (or an equivalent body outside England). Projects should involve at least one local authority\, one local enterprise partnership and several businesses. \nAt this half-day briefing event Innovate UK will explain in detail the scope and conditions of the competition. \nFor further information on the funding competition visit Bit.ly/iotcities. \nKey Dates: \nCompetition opens \n\n13 July 2015\n\nCompetition briefings \n\nLondon – 21 July 2015\nEdinburgh – 23 July 2015\nBelfast – 24 July 2015\nCardiff – 28 July 2015\nBirmingham – 29 July 2015\n\nRegistration deadline \n\nnoon 23 September 2015\n\nWritten applications deadline \n\nnoon 30 September 2015\n\nInvitation to interview sent out to selected applicants \n\n16 October 2015\n\nDeadline for feedback response \n\nnoon 23 October 2015\n\nPanel interviews \n\nWeek commencing 9 November 2015

SUMMARY:Medilink EM: MPD Training Course: Business Presentation Coaching
DESCRIPTION:During the Business presentation coaching day\, Julie will provide you with her best practice approach to effective and impactful presentations. This will focus on preparation\, how to structure your presentation\, slides and delivery. \nIn addition\, Julie will assist each delegate with strategic advice regarding content to ensure key messages are communicated. With her guidance\, you will produce and deliver a business presentation relevant to your needs\, and will receive constructive feedback in a small and collaborative group environment. \n\nWhat is it about the thought of delivering a presentation that sets your heart pounding – the fear or the opportunity?\nDo you worry about freezing\, forgetting your words\, nerves taking over\, going off piste or even receiving the death stare?\nOr are you excited about the possibilities – winning some new business\, gaining approval for your proposal\, impressing your client with your conclusions and recommendations\, raising your profile\, getting your message across?\nWould you benefit from a formula or process to help you create impactful and effective presentations? Would you appreciate some constructive and actionable feedback tailored specifically to your needs and presentation?\n\nIf the answer to any of these questions is yes\, then you should attend this course. \nBusiness presentation skills are no longer ‘nice to have’\, but instead are essential for both business and personal career development success. There are some good presenters around\, but most are failing to get their message across and as a result are not as successful as they deserve to be\, either from a business or personal perspective. \n“Julie gave us feedback addressing our individual needs\, whether that was about preparation\, key messages or delivery” Laura Yates\, Quadralene Ltd \nTo book your place\, please click here \nMember cost: £125 + VAT\nNon-Member cost: £175 + VAT \nThe costs above are with the 50% discount that eligible SMEs can reclaim. \nEligibility – Under the Science Industry Partnership (SIP) scheme\, eligible companies must be located in England and have less than 250 employees in the UK.   \nThis project has been partly supported by HM Government with Employer Ownership funding. \nPrice for non-eligible companies is: \n£250 + VAT for members \n£350 + VAT for non-members \nBook now as places are limited to 10 delegates. \nContact Becky Brown for further information – 0115 822 3154

SUMMARY:Wales Sepsis Summer Ball
DESCRIPTION:You are invited to attend the Wales Sepsis Summer Ball on Saturday 19th September. \nThe drinks reception will start at 7pm\, followed by dinner and dancing at the Mercure Hotel in Cardiff. This dress code is black tie and cocktails dresses\, and the evening will include a raffle and auction in aid of The UK Sepsis Trust and the Mothers of Africa. \nTickets cost £45 each. Please contact Maria Gundy – 02920 74 31 10 for more information. \nThe Mothers of Africa Charity are helping to prevent expectant mothers in sub Saharan Africa from dying needlessly\, by helping to train medical staff to care for mothers during pregnancy and childbirth. The figures are staggering with 1 in 8 mums dying of childbirth related diseases over a lifetime\, as risk accumulates.  Imagine if your mum had died in childbirth.  Funds raised from this event will help us build a Primary School in Shiyala Zambia\, to help educate tomorrow’s mums. \nUK Sepsis Trust: Sepsis is a life threatening condition that arises when the body’s response to an infection injures its own tissues and organs. Sepsis leads to shock\, multiple organ failure and death especially if not recognized early and treated promptly.  Unfortunately\, lots of people do not survive with Sepsis being one of our biggest killers both in Wales\, UK and the Developing World! Shocking\, since so few people are aware of it\, but sepsis claims 37\,000 lives every year in the UK and costs the NHS £2.5 billion a year. In comparison\, breast cancer claims less than 8\,000 lives/year.  \nPlease support this event by coming along\, sponsoring the event or advertsing in our brochure.  Both charities are very deserving of your support.  \nProfessor Judith Hall OBE\nTrustee and founder: Mothers of Africa\nSupporter: UK Sepsis Trust in Wales
