SUMMARY:Preparing your NHS Business Case
DESCRIPTION:With input from the EMAHSN staff\, this interactive and informative event on ‘Preparing your NHS Business Case’ will enable you to prepare better business cases. \nThis free to attend event is being held as part of the INSTILS programme – a project part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund\, click here to be re-directed to further information about the project. \nDuring the event you will also learn about: \n– What is a business case\, what is its purpose and why it is so important? \n– Who reviews the business case and how are they evaluated from a commissioning point of view? \n– How to construct a good business case \nThe Challenge as a supplier to the NHS is often that when you have a product which from your perspective improves patient outcomes and saves cost you still cannot get it adopted by the NHS. This is often because there is not a fully developed business case\, without this a group within the NHS interested in taking on board a new product or service are unlikely to get approval of the case for change before procurement of the innovation can proceed. \nOrganisations that supply to the NHS are often challenged by the process\, timescales\, evidence and documentary requirements. This can often seem like an unnecessary complication\, or simply a reason to not issue a purchase order. A good business case is fundamental to successful adoption and developing a long term business partnership. Preparing the business case can also be difficult for your NHS contacts because they are busy or not experienced in their preparation and often even more difficult for companies with little or no experience of the process. \nDue to limited seating numbers are restricted to one delegate per organisation. \nProgramme \nSpeaker Profiles \nBook Now

Now in its sixth successful year\, it aims to raise the profile and challenge the public’s view of women in science\, technology\, engineering\, maths and medicine (STEMM). \nThis year the event will see scientists from the University joined by conservationist and broadcaster Dan Rouse. \nFlashback to a previous Soapbox Science event in Swansea. \nThe Swansea date is one of 50 Soapbox Science events in 14 countries which will see speakers from a range of backgrounds share their research and answering questions from the public. \nOrganiser Dr Geertje van Keulen will help spread the word about the event on BBC Radio Wales’s Science Café on Tuesday when she joins a panel of leading female scientists to discuss ways of encouraging more women into STEMM careers. \nShe said: “We feel that Soapbox Science is a fantastic way of doing just that. By bringing science and technology to the public where they wouldn’t normally expect it\, we hope we can inspire and explain just what they can offer. \n“Once again this year our speakers will passionately discuss their work with the audience\, in particular those who would not otherwise go to scientific events or open days. Our aim is to challenge traditional science stereotypes.” \nAs speakers range from PhD students to professors\, Soapbox Science prides itself on representing the full spectrum of the academic career path\, and gives the speakers a chance to meet and network with other women in science. \nDr van Keulen added: “The topics are so diverse there should be something to appeal to everyone.” \nThis year’s speakers will be: \nDr Sandra Bustamante-Lopez on Red Blood Cells + Sensors\, we are a wise bunch; \nDr Charlotte Eve Evans\, Crabs\, climate change and disease in our oceans; \nJainaba Sallah Conteh Cooking your plastic waste into electric wires; \nDr Siyuan Liu Computing technologies for the elderly: games and devices; \nDr Awa Andongma Why insects need microbes; \nDr Alys Einion Centred Birth: It’s all in the mind – using the mind to enhance fertility and reproduction;  \nDr April Cridland Trapped antimatter – controlling annihilation; \nDr Zubeyde Bayram-Weston Amazing anatomy: why anatomy matters in disease; \nDr Kelly Mackintosh Move More\, Sit Less; \nLauren Burns Decisions\, decisions; \nHannah Jones A Healthy swimmer is a happy swimmer; and\, \nConservationist Dan Rouse Seeking Birds: A tale of bird conservation. \nDr van Keulen is also looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help support the event. The team needs people to assist speakers\, collect feedback from the public\, helping with transport\, record video and take photos throughout the day. \n“We guarantee good atmosphere\, interaction with variety of researchers from different disciplines\, Soapbox science T-shirt and free lunch\,”she added. \nEmail soapboxscienceswansea@swansea.ac.uk if you are interested or go to Soapbox Science  for more information about the event. \nSoapbox Science Swansea is part-funded by the Society for Applied Microbiology\, the Learned Society of Wales and Swansea University’s STEMM Colleges. \nScience Café will be broadcast at 6.30pm on Tuesday\, June 11 on BBC Radio Wales

SUMMARY:Agile R&D Leaders Creative Workshop & #BiotechBuddies Bristol
DESCRIPTION:Are you a leader of a BioPharma\, Medtech or Healthtech Company\n\n\nAre you interested in meeting with peers to discuss common challenges and to spark creativity?\n\n\nAre you looking to learn from experienced industry professionals? \n\n\nIf your answer is yes to any of these questions\, then this Agile Leader Workshop is for you! \nAgile innovation methods have revolutionized information technology. Over the past 25 to 30 years they have greatly increased success rates in software development\, improved quality and speed to market\, and boosted the motivation and productivity of IT teams. \nNow agile methodologies – which involve new values\, principles\, practices\, and benefits – are a radical alternative to command-and-control-style management – These practices are spreading across a broad range of industries and functions including the C-suite in Life Sciences\, Healthcare and Digital Health. With advances in technologies\, business leaders need to be knowledgeable across a wide range of disciplines – such as multiple science disciplines\, new technology advancements\, general management\, fund raising\, human resources\, clinical development\, manufacturing\, regulatory requirements and quality assurances – which is far too much for any one person to understand completely. \nAs a Business Leader you will benefit from this “Agile” workshop by sharing common challenges and building deeper connections and trust with your peers. In turn the aim is to build your confidence when working in areas normally outside your comfort zone\, by learning and having discussions with this “Agile” peer network. You can speak to people in a similar position about issues you may not have opportunity to discuss else where. You can discuss your healthcare and technology challenges with a view of learning from other peoples experiences to help you find a solution or spark an idea. Why let leaders of emerging companies re-invent the wheel to be successful\, when we can learn from experiences of others who have faced similar challenges before. \nChatham House Rules apply – “what goes on in the workshop\, stays in the workshop – so to speak!” \nOur mission is to start by becoming positive activists. To help you build your innovation enabled healthcare business so it is “fit for purpose\,” truely innovative and attractive to the global markets. Helping you build solid trustworthy networks with your peer group\, and to help spread your creative R&D business network nationally and internationally. \nThis workshop is facilitated by Prof Tony Sedgwick\, the self professed www.ThoughtDisruptor.com.\nTony has an esteemed career in life sciences in academia and in business\, he is a trained pathologist. His accolades include once being the Global Head of Clinical Trials at Roche AG\, and he has also been CEO of four life science companies\, Chairman of over 10 Companies\, and many positions within the academic community. He is also an actively training psychologist which is helping him develop his “Agile” community group development passion\, and a Jiu Jitsu Grand Master. \nWe will start this Agile Leaders Worshop on Monday 24 June 2019 from a 1.00pm arrival (with a prompt 1.30pm start). The Gert Lush Boardroom has been kindly provided by Grant Hawley\, MD\, Digital Circles Technology limited who are experts in Digital Marketing Strategies\, and are developing their own technology platform to connect people in the “future work place” economy.\n \nFor the Agile Leaders Workshop we limit this to 15 people\, the main target being C-level executives of Life science companies. However\, this event in Bristol will very much have a Communications feel about it through the support of Richard Hayhurst\, Richard Hayhurst Associates\, having Mike Ward Chief Editor of Informa plc’s Pharma Intelligence Division which includes world leading titles such as Scrip magazine\, In Vivo\, Pink Sheet and Medtech Insights. We also have Grant Hawley\, MD\, Digital Circles Technology limited who are providing the Workshop venue. Digital Circles Technologies are experts in Digital Marketing Strategies\, and are developing their own technology platform to connect people in the “future work place” economy. We have a special guest from pharma attending\, this is Ananad Guatam who is Head\, External Sci & Innovation\, Australia\, NZ\, & Southeast Asia\, Pfizer. Adjunct Prof\, Uni of Queensland\, Australia. \nWe are also massively appreciative of sponsorship support from Richard Hayhurst Associates (RHA). \nRichard Hayhurst Associates provides international pr services for life science companies\, research centres and service providers. Current clients range from diagnostics\, through therapeutics to digital health. Having moved recently to Bath\, Richard is looking to use his previous expertise in profiling hubs such as Scotland\, London\, Oslo Cancer Cluster and Stockholm-Uppsala to help other put the SouthWest and Wales on the global map! \nFor more information go to: www.richardhayhurstassociates.com \nThis Agile event will be attracting a few of the more established life science experts to be on this “self-help community” workshop joined by the fresh thinking “up and coming” future business leaders. Does this describe you? If so\, we would like you to attend\, so sign up now as spaces are VERY limited. For the R&D Leaders Workshop we are limited to only 12 places still available at the time of writing this. Feel free to write to me at graham@biosell.co.uk for more details\, or call me on 07970 500 433. \nThe “Agile” workshop finishes at 17.00\, at which time you will be invited to #biotechbuddies at the Riverstation\, The Grove\, Bristol BS1 4RB. The evening will go on to 21.00 with delicious finger foods\, drinks and social networking (if you would like that). Biotech Buddies started as a monthly meet up from all areas of the life science community. The London Biotech Buddies has regularly have 50-60 life science professionals attending. For the first event in Bristol we are targeting approximately 30-40 life science and tech professionals\, some of which will be regulars from the London\, Oxford and Cambridge events\, we are hoping to attract some of the Welsh Life Science Community\, and other regions of SW England. All the people you will meet will be potentially useful to your buiness. This Biotech Buddies Bristol social networking event from 18.00-21.00 is available to book without the workshop as another seperate listing on eventbrite. \nBiotech Buddies Bristol this month includes a 5-10 minute “Drink & Think” interview by Mike Ward\, Global Head of Content\, Pharma Intelligence\, Informa plc.\, with Richard Hayhurst\, and any other professionals who get selected. Mike will be asking questions to these selected experts about “What is the life science landscape like in Wales and the West of England\, and what are the future opportunities.” \nOur promise to you is this “Agile” workshop will be like no other business workshop you have experienced. You will be walking out of the session inspired\, educated and more connected. \nIf you are in life sciences\, and at least a bit curious\, then the Biotech Buddies is an occassion not to miss out on…….

SUMMARY:Health Horizons - Future Healthcare Forum
DESCRIPTION:Health Horizons is a high calibre\, two-day conference focusing on the future of the healthcare industry. \n\n\n\nOver the previous 20 years we have seen a significant change in the healthcare industry. Small molecules have been pushed out of the blockbuster limelight by biologics. Decreasing sequencing cost has allowed more targeted R&D and the use of increasingly interdisciplinary data to influence prognosis has become standard practice. All of this points to a healthcare future with an increasingly personalized approach. But how will this future come together? \nWe are on the brink of a technological revolution in healthcare where data collected from all different sources will influence the way we view\, prevent and cure disease. This approach aims to master the curative means of disease treatment and extend it’s branches into preventive and longevity based means. The constant monitoring from cradle to grave will give insights into how we should live our lives\, how we should eat and even determine where we shall live. \nThe drastic shift in focus expected in the coming years leave many questions about current business models unanswered. Will the ‘old’ models of the small molecule giants suffice when used on biologics? How will precision medicine and patient stratification affect the pricing and affordability of treatment? How will data companies benefit from the pricing turmoil and how big a part will they play in the future of healthcare? \nThe questions are on the near horizon and we aim to address these in the Health Horizons conference 2019. \nWho should attend?\n\nCEOs of innovative biotech and healthcare companies\nCEOs of large multinationals\nHeads of R&D\nStart-up founder\nAcademic researchers\nMedical doctors\nDirectors of innovation at public and private healthcare companies\nChief innovation officers\nInvestors – seed\, series A-B\n\n\nThemes\n\nNovel therapeutic approaches (viruses\, RNA\, gene & cell therapy\, tissue replacement)\nDigital health\, AI and data in healthcare\nCardiometabolic disease\nLongevity\nNew models for funding healthcare innovation\nFuture solutions in CNS\nNanotechnology and sensing in healthcare\nDelivering affordable innovative medicines to patients\nCo-creation between disciplines and stakeholders\nBreakthroughs against the incurables\nHolistic approach to medicine\nHow to revolutionise clinical trials\nFuture of oncology\nRare disease\n\nHealth Horizons aims to deliver 1\,500 attendees\, 100+ speakers and numerous partners for you to access\, plus the opportunity to discuss the most pertinent challenges to the health ecosystems with experts in their respective fields. \nCan you afford to miss out? \nJoin us at Health Horizons – Future Healthcare Forum Where today’s and tomorrow’s leaders meet \nView the Health Horizons – Brochure Here \n \n

SUMMARY:Biopesticide Summit 2019
DESCRIPTION:Bionema Limited and Swansea University are to host the inaugural Biopesticide Summit and exhibition in Swansea University\, United Kingdom in July 2019 to address the pressing need to develop alternatives to chemical crop protection.\n\n\nThe Biopesticide Summit 2019 will focus on developing and introducing innovative and alternative biocontrol solutions that will help protect our food chain in a controlled but timely manner. \nThe Global biopesticides market is increasing and was worth approximately $3.36 billion in 2016 and is projected to reach $8.82 billion by 2022\, at an annual growth rate of 17.4%. \nDespite significant growth in the biocontrol industry\, major limitations with current biopesticide solutions are rarely discussed. There is an urgent need to develop novel products and application technologies to not only “fill the gaps” in the market due to pesticide removal but also to anticipate future requirements as pests and diseases are developing resistance to currently used chemical products.  In additional\, there is increasing consumer led retailer demand for growers to eradicate the use of chemical pesticides in crop production and to grow fruit and vegetables with reduced detectable residues. \n  \n\nBiopesticide Summit 2019 will:\n\n\n\nCover the global challenges facing end-users and regulators today and in the near future.\nExamine new tools and methods being used to accelerate discovery of new biopesticide products.\nHear about innovative technologies\, novel formulations and application strategies; highlighting how they can be used to deliver high quality formulated products for better efficacy in different cropping systems.\nBring together academia\, industry and investors to commercialise novel innovations.\n\nHead over to the website to find out more and register!

SUMMARY:Clinical Trial Supply Solutions: Optimising your tax strategy today and post-Brexit
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER NOW \nAny business that moves goods into and out of the UK needs to be aware of the rules that will impact taxes payable when goods move cross a border. Although many products in the clinical trial industry are not subject to import duties\, other taxes such as VAT can be applied\, adding an additional – and often unnecessary – 20% cost to the shipping of goods.  \nSharp Clinical Services – in conjunction with David Miller of The VAT People/The Customs People – will demonstrate using real examples\, how Sharp can support you to optimise your clinical trial supplies into and out of the UK\, from both non-EU and EU locations. Learn how to minimise your tax exposure on shipments and get to grips with your Import/Export regulatory obligations. We will discuss the tax landscape as it is today as well as the impact that Brexit is likely to have on your tax obligation in the future. \nSharp Clinical can either act as your ‘Importer of Record’ in which case all applicable charges will be passed through or alternatively\, we can offer you expert tax advice in conjunction with our partners\, to guide you through the process of reclaiming VAT. \nThis webinar will cover: \n\nImports into The EU – The position today\n\nHow import duties and VAT taxes apply in moving goods into the EU now;\nSimple practical steps to ensure that costs are understood\, factored in and most importantly minimised\, especially VAT;\nWhat practical assistance is available;\n\n\nMovements Between EU countries [UK > EU and vice versa]\n\nWhat high level requirements there are in moving goods around the EU;\nHow taxes can be minimised now in moving goods around the EU;\nPractical steps to consider\n\n\nThe Position Post-Brexit\n\nAn overview of the current situation with regards to Brexit [as it stands];\nHow this will impact the current situation;\nPractical steps which can be taken now;\nWhat practical assistance is available;\n\n\n\nOur Speakers \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDavid Miller\nCustoms Expert\, The Customs People \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIan Morgan\nGeneral Manager\, Sharp Clinical Services \n\n\n\n\nAbout Sharp Clinical \n\n\nSharp UK is based in South Wales and is the European hub of our Clinical Services division. Following a successful inspection by the MHRA\, Sharp can now offer a range of clinical trial and commercial services from the £9.5 million facility including primary and secondary packaging with low humidity control\, labelling\, storage and distribution\, QP services as well as controlled drug storage.

SUMMARY:Food Supplements Special Interest Group (SIG)
DESCRIPTION:Cannabidiol (CBD) – Pandora’s Box? A status update \nCannabidiol (CBD) continues to make headlines\, whether as the next big thing in food and drink or being the centre of controversy. In Jan 2019 a change in the status of CBD on the Novel Food Union List caused ripples across the wellness sector. No definitive position has yet to be agreed\, with trade associations lobbying hard both within UK and Europe. Whilst we are unlikely to have all the answers\, there will be external speakers present. There may be some resolution\, but we don’t have a crystal ball. It’s a great opportunity to meet like minds and be informed about this growing sector. \nThis free to attend event is held as part of the INSTILS programme – a project part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund\, click here to be re-directed to further information about the project. \nProgramme \nBook Now \n  \nPlease note: spaces are limited\, preference will be given to SMEs

SUMMARY:Preparing your NHS Business Case
DESCRIPTION:This interactive and informative event on ‘Preparing your NHS Business Case’ will enable you to prepare better business cases with input from the EMAHSN staff. \nThis free to attend event is being held as part of the SoLSTICE programme – a project part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund\, click here to be re-directed to further information about the project.

SUMMARY:NEWS in your community: monitoring and supporting patients across all healthcare settings
DESCRIPTION:MediWales is collaborating with the West of England Academic Health Science Network (AHSN) to deliver this conference which will focus on monitoring and supporting patients outside the hospital setting (at home\, in nursing and care homes) to specifically enable the measurement of vital signs to calculate a Nation Early Warning Score (NEWS) which is used when delivering care. \nFree delegate places are available to NHS professionals\, research and industry communities\, from both sides of the bridge. We would also like to extend an invitation to companies who have or are developing various approaches to track vital signs. Though this is not about intensive care monitoring – during the event it will be considered how these tools could be used in a community setting. This would include the recording of observations\, dashboards\, wearable devices\, remote monitoring\, devices that aid recording of observation or identifying deterioration with a particular interest in wearable and non-contact tech for those with Learning Disabilities. \nThis event will discuss the challenges and technical issues faced in the community care setting and look at the development of potential clinical / industry collaborations to address the issues in this area. There will also be information on the support and funding available to take projects forward. \nHear from speakers from the AHSN who will present their work on the National Early Warning Score (NEWS) and from Welsh clinical colleagues who will showcase their plan going forward. An insightful look at where automation of technologies and clinical pathways could be accessible to improve an ever evolving process. \nWho is this event for? \n60 – 80 delegates\, NHS\, research and industry communities \n Objectives of the event: \n\nDiscuss the challenges and technical issues\nLook at development of potential clinical/ industry collaborations to address the issues in this area\nInformation on support and funding available to take projects forward\n\nProgramme: \nDelegate Information\nMediWales & West of England Collaboration Event \nWe are looking forward to welcoming you to ‘NEWS in your community’. Please see below the relevant information for the upcoming event.\n\nVenue\nCeltic Manor Golf Club – Augusta Suite\nColdra Woods\nNewport\nNP18 1HQ\n\nDirections & Parking\nDetails on directions to the venue and parking information can be found here.Free parking for the Golf Club is available in the Golf Academy Car parkTimings\nRegistrations begins at 8.30am and the opening introduction starts at 9.30am.
