SUMMARY:WEBINAR: Medilink UK Biosensing for Diagnostics Special Interest Group
DESCRIPTION:The vision for this special interest group is to create a forum for companies producing diagnostic technologies which involve the application of sensor systems and/or detection of biological interactions. \nBiosensing for diagnostics is a critical and ever-evolving field in the realm of healthcare and biotechnology. It encompasses a wide range of techniques and technologies aimed at detecting and measuring specific biological markers or molecules through the detection of biological interactions within the device. These technologies are most often found in point-of-care applications\, for example blood glucose monitors or lateral flow devices. These technologies are designed to provide valuable information about the patient’s physiological state\, allowing for early disease detection\, disease progression tracking\, and personalized treatment strategies. \nThe SIG aims to provide: unique networking opportunities with industry peers\, access to cutting-edge insights and knowledge\, and the chance to collaboratively address shared challenges. Serving as a hub for fostering collaboration on initiatives that directly address the unique needs of our industry. Members will enhance their visibility and recognition within the sector. \nAgenda \n· Introduction and welcome \n· Purpose and objectives \n· Industry presentations – CPI\, 3 SMEs \n· Interactive feedback \n· Next steps and closing remarks \n  \nTo read more and to register\, please click here.

SUMMARY:2024 BioInfect Conference
DESCRIPTION:With the WHO declaring antimicrobial resistance (AMR) one of the top 10 global public health threats facing humanity and with 1.27 million deaths directly related to AMR plus antimicrobial-resistant infections playing a role in almost 5 million deaths in 2019\, tackling the issue requires a united\, multisectoral approach. \nAntimicrobial resistance: the next pandemic \nAMR occurs when bacteria\, viruses\, fungi and parasites change over time and no longer respond to medicines making infections harder to treat and increasing the risk of disease spread\, severe illness and death. As a result of drug resistance\, antibiotics and other antimicrobial medicines become ineffective and infections become increasingly difficult or impossible to treat. \nWithout effective tools for the prevention and adequate treatment of drug-resistant infections and improved access to existing and new quality-assured antimicrobials\, the number of people for whom treatment is failing or who die of infections will increase. Medical procedures\, such as surgery\, including caesarean sections or hip replacements\, cancer chemotherapy\, and organ transplantation\, will become more risky. \nBioInfect will examine the issues surrounding the increasing threat of AMR and how it can be tackled\, such as the need for greater innovation and investment in new drug development\, the effectiveness of current and proposed reimbursement models\, the efficacy of new and alternative treatments and how organisations\, stakeholders and policymakers can work together more effectively to combat this global issue. \nClick here to find out more.
