SUMMARY:KTN: Clinical Needs and Sensing Solutions - Meet the Clinicians
DESCRIPTION:Click here to download the event flyer.  \nRegistration: £50 +VAT \nThe Electronics\, Sensors\, Photonics and HealthTech and Medicines Knowledge Transfer Networks (KTNs) are to hold a workshop in London on Tuesday 6th March 2012. This workshop brings together leading clinicians and sensor technology developers. It builds on the significant interest in the sensing community in addressing healthcare applications. It also draws upon the efforts and strategic objectives of the HealthTech & Medicines KTN’s mapping of unmet clinical needs\, involving clinicians in research and collaborative R&D with the healthcare and medicine industry. \nThe workshop will discuss and review the current critical clinical needs in four different areas of clinical specialities and will provide the opportunity to discuss directly with the leading clinicians any ideas for potential sensing solutions. The clinical specialities which will be covered during this event are; \n\nOrthopaedics & Trauma\nEmergency Medicine\nPaediatrics\nUrology\n\nThe main aims of this event are as follows; \n\nFacilitate new clinician/industry collaborations in a number of areas of clinical specialities.\nIdentify barriers to innovation and commercialisation\nReview current funding opportunities and identify funding gaps\nProvide networking opportunities to identify partners\nReview supporting mechanisms available to accelerate innovation and commercialisation through KTNs\nReview current pre-clinical and clinical trials and identify best practice to accelerate regulatory approvals\n\nWho should attend?\nThis workshop is primarily about exploring a range of clinical needs where sensing technology has the potential to provide a solution for the benefits of the patients and healthcare providers. It will therefore be primarily of interest to: \n\nCompanies seeking to exploit their sensing technologies in new medical areas\nCompanies seeking to identify leading clinicians to establish long term collaborations\nCompanies and academics with sensing technologies that they consider may have healthcare applications\nLarge medical device and diagnostics companies interested in directly sponsoring innovative ideas and working with clinicians/academics and SME’s to establish new collaborations\nClinicians active in the identified areas wishing to discuss potential solutions and explore new collaboration opportunities\nClinicians from other areas who are interested in transferable technologies of relevance to their own needs\nAcademics involved in developing new technologies for sensors and new sensor applications\nFunding organisations seeking to identify strategic priority areas for future funding calls\n\n\nRegistration \nDue to the anticipated popularity of this workshop and the limited number of places we request potential participants to contact us directly in order to register their interest in attending. To do this please send an e-mail to Robert Angus at robert.angus@espktn.org stating the expertise/ technology you will bring to the debate. \nIn your e-mail please also indicate which of the clinical areas addressed by the workshop (Orthopaedics & Trauma\, Emergency Medicine\, Paediatrics\, Urology) interests you the most.

SUMMARY:Clinical Trials for Non-Scientists
DESCRIPTION:*This event is run by Medilink East Midlands – one of MediWales’ partners within Medilink UK* \nKey to the approval of all medicines and some medical devices are clinical trials. \nThe principles of all clinical trials are the same; a need for consistent\, high quality\, reliable results\, achieved in a timely and cost-effective manner (even if the individual routes to those results are different). \nBy attending this one-day\, interactive course you will understand: \n– What a clinical trial is \n– How we design and run successful clinical trials \n– How we can be sure that our results are consistent\, true and meaningful \n– What we can do if things don’t go to plan\n… and if you have no scientific background\, we will introduce you to scientific thinking and principles. \nPLEASE NOTE: This day is less appropriate if you already have experience running clinical trials. It does not go into any depth on specific NHS\, local authority or regulatory requirements (which are specialist subjects in their own right). \nThe cost of this event is £150 plus VAT\, with a discounted rate of £100 plus VAT for Medilink members. \nTo find out more information and to book\, please click here.
