SUMMARY:Greaves Brewster: Do I need data to file a patent application?
DESCRIPTION:Understand when you are ready to start the patent process\, particularly for chemistry / life sciences inventions. \nThis webinar discusses the information required for drafting a patent application. With laboratory activity curtailed or delayed at the moment\, we will explore under what circumstances patent applications can (sensibly!) be filed without data. \nDo you already have enough information to begin the patent process? Can you file something limited and fill in the gaps later? When is data essential and in what form? Your presenters will answer these and other questions over the course of this 45 minute session. \nFind out more and register here

SUMMARY:Managing your patents and IP during a downturn webinar
DESCRIPTION:When did you last review your patent portfolio? Over-time\, all businesses accumulate a range of intellectual property assets\, but the direction and needs of the organisation may have changed since their origination – and likewise the relevance of these assets\, particularly patents\, may have changed too. \nDuring times of economic difficulty\, when management has other important and pressing issues to deal with\, when cash must be conserved and budgets trimmed\, it is imperative for a business to protect and retain the intrinsic value afforded by its key IP\, whilst making savings where possible. For time-strapped senior executives\, decisions must be made efficiently while making sure the business remains protected for the future. \nThis complimentary webinar will be of interest to both those in a commercial role with an interest /responsibility for IP through to experienced in-house IP counsel\, where the experienced panel of patent attorneys and an in-house IP manager will be exploring pertinent questions and subjects including: \n\nWhat efficient steps can you take to manage your patent portfolio during a commercial downturn?\nHow can you defer or cut IP costs whilst retaining asset value?\nPlanning for the future to continue to build IP value and protect the business\n\nAudience members will benefit from insights from the panel about activities you can do right now. Registered attendees will have the opportunity to submit questions in advance for the panel to address. \nPanel: \n\nJim Pearson (senior partner and patent attorney)\, Abel + Imray\nJulian Crump (partner and patent attorney)\, Abel + Imray\nArthur Lallement (IP & Licensing Manager)\, Bespak Europe Ltd\n\nRegister here

SUMMARY:ALAN Seminar: Active Ageing with Smart Technology
DESCRIPTION:What: ALAN Seminar: Active Ageing with Smart Technology \nWhen: Monday 20 July\, 13:00 – 14:30 \nWhere: This Seminar will be held via Zoom. Joining Instructions will be sent upon registration. \nProgramme \n13:00 – Introduction (Prof Nigel Harris\, ALAN & WEAHSN)\n13:10 – Exploring the impact of commercially available smart technology on the lives of residents within a retirement village environment (Shirley Hall\, Head of Innovation & Wellbeing\, The Extra Care Charitable Trust; Praminda Caleb- Solly – Professor of Assistive Robotics & Intelligent Health Technologies at UWE; Alex Sleat – Knowledge Transfer Fellow\, The Extra Care Charitable Trust)\n13:50 – Technology Showcase with Dan Stepney\, Director RGS Care\n14:05 – Technology Showcase with Jon Reynolds\, Chief Executive Officer\, GDS Digital Solutions\n14:20 – Wrap up and final comments (Prof Nigel Harris\, ALAN & WEAHSN) \nSmart home sensors and intelligent devices are increasingly being trialled with the aim of supporting active ageing and well-being. Smart home technology is being marketed as a consumer product and we see it being integrated into a range of home appliances\, working in conjunction with cloud-based services such as digital assistants. As these products become more affordable and readily available\, health and social care service providers are keen to explore how these emerging technologies might be deployed to support people with long-term conditions to self-manage\, as well as receive responsive care. \nThis seminar brings together service providers\, smart sensor technology SMEs and researchers to share their experience of using a range of technologies from off-the-shelf to bespoke systems to provide data-driven insights into ageing and supporting independent living. The potential for how this information can also enable increased independence and improve service provisions\, particularly in the backdrop of a growing shortage of care staff and resources\, is also considered. \nRegister here

SUMMARY:Department for International Trade: Biopharmaceutical Virtual Mission\, India
DESCRIPTION:The Department for International Trade (DIT) invites innovative British biopharmaceutical companies across: \n\nVaccine\,\nDrug discovery/re-purposing and delivery\nProcess Manufacturing including AI/data in manufacturing\n\nVaccines: India is a global vaccines hub as the country produces more than 60% of vaccine doses procured by the UN worldwide. India also has the largest global capacity for WHO pre-qualified vaccine manufacturing. \nSeveral Indian vaccine manufacturers are developing vaccines for infectious and non- infectious diseases\, including for Covid-19 either indigenously and/or in partnership with international organisations. \nDrug discovery and delivery: India is the largest provider of generic drugs globally\, supplying over 40 per cent of generic demand in the US\, and 25 per cent of all medicine in UK\, through more than 250 US FDA\, and UK MHRA approved plants. Indian manufacturers are moving up the value chain by investing in R&D for development of new molecules. There is also renewed interest in drug re-purposing\, to identify new areas of application for existing drugs\, especially with the current pandemic situation. \nProcess manufacturing and technology: as Indian pharma moves up the value chain\, there are increased incentives to investing in technologies such as those included within Industry 4.0 and digital manufacturing to improve processes and costs\, which would enable India to meet the high regulatory standards of markets like the US and EU. Given the UK’s strengths in above areas\, the UK stands out as the perfect partner of choice for the Indian biopharma industry as it looks to move up the value chain. \nFind out more here and download the expression of interest form here.
