SUMMARY:ISCF Application of whole Genome Sequencing approaches to Cancer
DESCRIPTION:The aim of this competition is to support projects that use whole genome sequencing to analyse cancers.\n\n\n\n\nInnovate UK\, part of UK Research and Innovation\, will invest up to £5.4 million of the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund as part of the Data to Early Diagnosis and Precision Medicine Challenge. \nApplications can be made for both feasibility and collaborative projects lasting up to 18 months and with maximum eligible costs of £1m. \nThe aim of this competition\, which opens on 7 October and closes on 22 January is to support projects that use whole genome sequencing to analyse cancers. This can be through the manipulation of existing whole genome data\, through the collection of new sequence data or through a combination of both. \nPossible approaches include but are not limited to: \n• the development of new analytical or reporting tools for clinical decision support\n• the identification of molecular signatures that allow for new or improved targeting of therapies\n• the identification of new therapeutic targets\n• new genetic signatures that can be used clinically\, such as markers that support repurposing of drugs or a personalised approach to patient management\n• the comparative assessment of alternative assay methods in parallel with whole genome sequencing \n  \nApplications that apply other forms of genetic analysis\, including gene panels or arrays\, in isolation will not be eligible for funding. \n  \nIf you are interest in learning more about this ISCF competition\, register here to attend the briefing event that will be held in Birmingham on the 30th of October. \nNot able to attend? This is often because there is not a fully developed business case\, without this a group within the NHS interested in taking on board a new product or service are unlikely to get approval of the case for change before procurement of the innovation can proceed. \nOrganisations that supply to the NHS are often challenged by the process\, timescales\, evidence and documentary requirements. This can often seem like an unnecessary complication\, or simply a reason to not issue a purchase order. A good business case is fundamental to successful adoption and developing a long term business partnership. This means they must comply with the new conformity assessment procedure for their device and quality system in order to CE-mark their devices and place them on the EU market. For products currently certified by a notified body – provided certain MDR requirements are met – the transition period may be extended until 26 May 2024. \nNew or stricter requirements of the IVDR will be challenging and have a significant impact on manufacturers and all other stakeholders. Changes affect areas such as classification of IVD devices\, conformity assessment procedures\, performance/clinical evidence\, post market surveillance\, labelling and registration. \nThe majority of devices will be reclassified and require Notified Body conformity assessment. For existing IVD manufacturers to meet the May 2022 deadline they will need to understand what is required and have a plan to address their current gap. Now in its fourth year\, the event will again bring healthcare professionals together with digital\, technology and data companies to solve clinical problems and challenges from across the health and care system in Wales. \nIt culminates in a two day event in January\, where teams will be created\, ideas generated\, and a pitching event will take place in order to win one of two £7\,5000 prizes\, to bring your team’s solution to life! This is an exciting opportunity\, not to be missed. \nBut there’s work to do before then…Here’s how it works: \nOctober – From October onwards we’re looking for people to submit their problems. Any issue which requires a solution is welcome\, all we need is a paragraph. Choose “Health and Care” ticket when you register\, fill in the appropriate information\, and we’ll get in touch with you. Now’s your chance! \nIf you’ve got the skills\, we’ve got the challenge. To collaborate with NHS staff to develop solutions or new products choose ‘Solutions!’ when you register. Nearer the event date we’ll send you a list of the challenges and more detailed guidance about how you can take part. Put simply… turn up for the two days\, find a team you can work with\, and put your problem solving skills to work. \nJanuary – The hack itself will take place. There’ll be plenty of things to see\, speakers to listen to\, and a fantastic atmosphere of innovation.
