DESCRIPTION:*This event is run by Medilink East Midlands – one of MediWales’ partners within Medilink UK* \nKey to the approval of all medicines and some medical devices are clinical trials. \nThe principles of all clinical trials are the same; a need for consistent\, high quality\, reliable results\, achieved in a timely and cost-effective manner (even if the individual routes to those results are different). \nBy attending this one-day\, interactive course you will understand: \n– What a clinical trial is \n– How we design and run successful clinical trials \n– How we can be sure that our results are consistent\, true and meaningful \n– What we can do if things don’t go to plan\n… and if you have no scientific background\, we will introduce you to scientific thinking and principles. \nPLEASE NOTE: This day is less appropriate if you already have experience running clinical trials. He is also University Director of Health Informatics Research Laboratories\, created through a collaboration between the College of Medicine\, Swansea University and NHS Wales Informatics Service\, the national programme for NHS IT for Wales. The Labs provide state-of-the-art facilities to design\, prototype\, test and evaluate innovative new information technologies for use in improving health and healthcare.  David is also joint lead of the Health Information Research Unit for Wales (HIRU)\, which develops new ways of harnessing the potential of routinely collected information collected in health and other settings. David is a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of the Arts\, Manufactures and Commerce (FRSA) and past Chairman and a current Director of MediWales\, a membership organisation representing the medical technology sector of Wales. David is a member of numerous committees and national bodies relating to health informatics and health-related research. He has received research grants and consultancy contracts valuing over £20m over recent years. \nSabarna Mukhopadhyay – CAL2CAL\nCAL2CAL addresses the immediate needs of improved clinical efficiency and preventative care with bespoke solutions involving integration of existing systems in the NHS and use of mobile technology to allow information access at the point of care. The solutions are currently focussed on the care and monitoring of the elderly and the chronic disease management. The concept of single input and multiple use of the confidential clinical data is possible using standard based secured data exchange framework. The presentation will intend to highlight a couple of general issues highlighted in the NHS nationally and demonstrate the user friendly solutions that could be implemented phase wise. The advantages and benefits of the modular system would be the crucial point of discussion. \nJohn Griffiths – MOCAD\nJohn Griffiths developer of MOCAD (Mobile Care and early intervention and Diagnostics)\, which is an Android/Cloud based integrated system that addresses the problems of Accountability\, Lone Worker\, Mileage and Efficiency within the Social Care community.
