Care homes in Wales at the forefront of the latest COVID-19 treatments

Care homes across Wales are being asked to take part in a ground-breaking trial looking at reducing the transmission of COVID-19 and its severity in care homes as part in the trial called PROTECT-CH.

The trial needs as many as 750 care homes from across the UK, with at least 40 from Wales, to contribute to this national ongoing fight against COVID-19.

Study Lead in Wales, Professor Jonathan Hewitt, said: “As one of the few academic geriatricians in Wales, it was so important to me that as many Welsh care homes and members of the public are contributing to such life-changing research.

“It’s down to the dedication of staff involved in these studies that we have access to the most advanced treatments for residents across the country and I encourage as many care homes as possible to get involved.”

If you work in a care home and would like to know more about the study then watch the videos below, from Primary Care Research manager at Health and Care Research Wales, Angela Evans.
