Job Opportunity: Human Factors Engineer – THAY Medical

Due to the growth of our organisation, based in Dorset, THAY Medical are currently recruiting for a Human Factors / Usability Engineer to assist our team in medical device developments.

You will have a strong understanding of one of human factors, usability, ergonomics, industrial design, software or psychology, ideally within the medical devices industry, but experience in other industries is acceptable, if not an advantage. Degree qualification is mandatory, but not just in the above areas – other subjects may also be suitable i.e. engineering, marketing, design etc.

The key skills required are to be a competent and confident individual, who adapts easily to situations and to people. A key attribute is that you are able to interview people, perform usability evaluations and run projects. Organisation, leadership and professionalism are key to this role since it is senior in level. In addition, we seek individuals with a “can do” attitude, who are not afraid to travel, not afraid to work effectively and who can work well in a small team.

Travel internationally will be required intermittently, and the ability to drive and travel within the UK regularly. A benefit of being a human factors engineer is that you will travel with the job and you will not be stuck in a desk all year around. Therefore, an International passport is required and UK or European citizenship essential. In addition, capability to speak/write in multiple languages will be useful and a benefit to the organisation.

Knowledge of human factors / usability regulations will be an advantage (IEC62366-1, UCM259760, ISO92421 etc.), as well as design, development and testing methods for medical devices and other products. Experience of UX and digital device development, including software will also be an advantage. Experience in organisations that operate quality management systems is essential and ideally you will have more than 5 years’ work experience in industry post-graduation, and at least 2 years in a human factors related industry.

This role will pay industry standard levels dependent upon experience and suitability. In addition, benefits will include pension, holidays, expenses, and a relocation allowance may be utilised dependent on distance.
