Proposed changes to legislation on social care and continuing health care

The Welsh Government is considering some changes to the law, to improve social care and continuing NHS healthcare.
Proposals include legislation to eliminate profit from the care of children looked after. And introduce direct payments for adults who are eligible for continuing NHS healthcare.

Welsh Government are consulting on 4 areas:

  • eliminating profit from the care of children looked after
  • introducing direct payments for continuing health care
  • extending mandatory reporting of children and adults at risk
  • amendments to regulation of service providers, responsible individuals and the social care workforce. This includes extending the definition of social care worker to include childcare and play workers
