CEDAR (Centre for Healthcare Evaluation, Device Assessment and Research) produces evidence to support decision-making in healthcare, producing comprehensive reports on the clinical, cost effectiveness, regulatory and safety aspects of emerging health technologies, healthcare interventions and NHS service configuration.

Cedar is part of Cardiff and Vale UHB (NHS) and the Cardiff University Medical Engineering Research Group. Our workstreams include:

  • Value-based healthcare – collecting and analysing patient reported outcome (PROM) data, PROM selection, development and validation, data cleansing, linkages and structures, user acceptance testing, focus groups/interviews, research and evaluation.
  • Clinical trials, qualitative and quantitative research – funding applications, protocol development, trial management, monitoring, data analysis.
  • Health technology assessment – topic scoping, literature searching, critical appraisals, systematic and rapid reviews, meta-analysis.
  • Health economics – model development and critiquing, choice of inputs, model testing, health economic analysis plans (HEAPs).
  • Service evaluation – logic model development, stakeholder engagement/mapping, evaluation plans, evaluability assessment, process evaluation, complex interventions.

Cedar provides services to the Welsh Value in Health Centre (WViHC), National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee (WHSSC), and Welsh Government. We work closely with industry, academia, and health professionals to initiate and run evidence reviews, research studies and evaluation.
