The computing collaboration plans to open a hub at the Dylan Thomas Centre in Swansea in April. At the same time, it will add extra capacity in Cardiff.

HPC Wales chief executive David Craddock told Insider the extra firepower would make Wales the UK’s third biggest high performance centre.

In computing terms, it will be able to call on 320 teraflops of capacity, behind only high performance computing centres Hector in Edinburgh and Daresbury in Cheshire.

HPC works with Welsh universities, the Welsh Government and Fujitsu. It provides high-powered computing to companies and academics.

Craddock said HPC Wales had helped create 60 jobs, had engaged with 100 businesses and established 40 collaborative projects since it was set up last year.

And he said it hard helped about 500 peoples to take advantage of some sort of training, and established 15 elements of degree courses.
