The NHS eProcurement Strategy, published in May 2014, aims to transform how the NHS improves patient care through a modern, effective and efficient NHS procurement function.

Demand for NHS services is growing, but NHS funding is not keeping pace. NHS trusts are being challenged to operate more efficiently. A step in doing so is to improve NHS procurement, particularly to undertake NHS purchase-to-pay transactions and all category management activities by electronic means.

The benefits of doing so include provision of higher quality data for information sharing, time saving automated transactions, reduced costs and enhanced services between customer and supplier. Achieving these benefits will mean changing the way the NHS works with its suppliers, moving to a standard coding (GS1) to identify products, a common electronic language for exchanging information, and greater technical infrastructure.

This Conference is an opportunity for all suppliers to the NHS to understand how the NHS eProcurement Strategy will impact their business.

The objective is to provide information on the:

• Suppliers Guidelines to be published by DH
• Latest updates in the strategy’s implementation plan
• Necessary steps to enable compliance
• Actions local trusts are taking
