Smart home sensors and intelligent devices are increasingly being trialled with the aim of supporting active ageing and well-being. Smart home technology is being marketed as a consumer product and we see it being integrated into a range of home appliances, working in conjunction with cloud-based services such as digital assistants. As these products become more affordable and readily available, health and social care service providers are keen to explore how these emerging technologies might be deployed to support people with long-term conditions to self-manage, as well as receive responsive care.
This seminar brings together service providers, smart sensor technology SMEs and researchers to share their experience of using a range of technologies from off-the-shelf to bespoke systems to provide data-driven insights into ageing and supporting independent living. The potential for how this information can also enable increased independence and improve service provisions, particularly in the backdrop of a growing shortage of care staff and resources, is also considered.
