The Electronics, Sensors, Photonics and HealthTech and Medicines Knowledge Transfer Networks (KTNs) are to hold a workshop in London on Tuesday 6th March 2012. This workshop brings together leading clinicians and sensor technology developers. It builds on the significant interest in the sensing community in addressing healthcare applications. It also draws upon the efforts and strategic objectives of the HealthTech & Medicines KTN’s mapping of unmet clinical needs, involving clinicians in research and collaborative R&D with the healthcare and medicine industry.

The workshop will discuss and review the current critical clinical needs in four different areas of clinical specialities and will provide the opportunity to discuss directly with the leading clinicians any ideas for potential sensing solutions. The clinical specialities which will be covered during this event are;

• Orthopaedics & Trauma
• Emergency Medicine
• Paediatrics
• Urology

The main aims of this event are as follows;

• Facilitate new clinician/industry collaborations in a number of areas of clinical specialities.
• Identify barriers to innovation and commercialisation
• Review current funding opportunities and identify funding gaps
• Provide networking opportunities to identify partners
• Review supporting mechanisms available to accelerate innovation and commercialisation through KTNs
• Review current pre-clinical and clinical trials and identify best practice to accelerate regulatory approvals
