The Electronics, Sensors, Photonics and HealthTech and Medicines Knowledge Transfer Networks (KTNs) are to hold a workshop in London on Tuesday 6th March 2012. This workshop brings together leading clinicians and sensor technology developers. It builds on the significant interest in the sensing community in addressing healthcare applications. It also draws upon the efforts and strategic objectives of the HealthTech & Medicines KTN’s mapping of unmet clinical needs, involving clinicians in research and collaborative R&D with the healthcare and medicine industry.
The workshop will discuss and review the current critical clinical needs in four different areas of clinical specialities and will provide the opportunity to discuss directly with the leading clinicians any ideas for potential sensing solutions. The clinical specialities which will be covered during this event are;
- Orthopaedics & Trauma
- Emergency Medicine
- Paediatrics
- Urology
The main aims of this event are as follows;
- Facilitate new clinician/industry collaborations in a number of areas of clinical specialities.
- Identify barriers to innovation and commercialisation
- Review current funding opportunities and identify funding gaps
- Provide networking opportunities to identify partners
- Review supporting mechanisms available to accelerate innovation and commercialisation through KTNs
- Review current pre-clinical and clinical trials and identify best practice to accelerate regulatory approvals
Who should attend?
This workshop is primarily about exploring a range of clinical needs where sensing technology has the potential to provide a solution for the benefits of the patients and healthcare providers. It will therefore be primarily of interest to:
- Companies seeking to exploit their sensing technologies in new medical areas
- Companies seeking to identify leading clinicians to establish long term collaborations
- Companies and academics with sensing technologies that they consider may have healthcare applications
- Large medical device and diagnostics companies interested in directly sponsoring innovative ideas and working with clinicians/academics and SME’s to establish new collaborations
- Clinicians active in the identified areas wishing to discuss potential solutions and explore new collaboration opportunities
- Clinicians from other areas who are interested in transferable technologies of relevance to their own needs
- Academics involved in developing new technologies for sensors and new sensor applications
- Funding organisations seeking to identify strategic priority areas for future funding calls
Registration
Due to the anticipated popularity of this workshop and the limited number of places we request potential participants to contact us directly in order to register their interest in attending. To do this please send an e-mail to Robert Angus at robert.angus@espktn.org stating the expertise/ technology you will bring to the debate.
In your e-mail please also indicate which of the clinical areas addressed by the workshop (Orthopaedics & Trauma, Emergency Medicine, Paediatrics, Urology) interests you the most.
