Health and Care Research Wales Evidence Centre

Health and Care Research Wales wishes to fund an Evidence Centre to undertake evidence synthesis and rapid primary research to address knowledge gaps and the specific needs of Welsh Government, and healthcare, public health and social care stakeholders in Wales. It is expected that the evidence produced will be of immediate use to decision-makers within Welsh Government, the NHS and social care and will have a direct impact on decision-making, patient and client care, reducing inequalities and identifying future research needs.

Remit

The Evidence Centre will be expected to engage with stakeholders, identify and prioritise research questions, and undertake a range of evidence synthesis, rapid evaluation and rapid primary research activities.

The Evidence Centre will produce a variety of products which could include, but need not be restricted to:

  • Research evidence maps
  • Scoping reviews
  • Rapid evidence summaries
  • Rapid evidence reviews
  • Systematic reviews
  • Living reviews
  • Rapid evaluations of interventions and service developments
  • Rapid primary research arising from the Centre’s evidence synthesis activities or direct stakeholder need

Funding of up to £1.5 million per year is available for an initial 3 year award and a possible 2 year extension.

Eligibility

Applicants must satisfy the following criteria:

  • Expertise in a variety of review methods
  • A track record of delivering reviews and rapid primary research in a range of health, public health and social care topics
  • The agility, experience and expertise to adapt methods and approaches quickly to the kind of research required
  • The ability to draw on additional methodological and topic-specific expertise as required
  • A good understanding of, and ideally existing strong links with, the relevant stakeholder communities
  • A good understanding and track record of strong public involvement and engagement
  • A good understand of and track record of knowledge mobilisation and engagement with end-users of research

Applications will undergo assessment in September 2022, with all applicants notified of the outcome of their bid by the end of September 2022.
