New $55m funding opportunity to advance research around women’s heart health

A new $55m funding opportunity to advance research around women’s heart heath, coordinated by Wellcome Leap and supported by British Heart Foundation has been launched.

The funding scheme, called VISIBLE, aims to increase the proportion of women presenting with stable angina who receive effective diagnosis and treatment for coronary microvascular disease from less than 1% to more than 80% without increasing the risk of missed diagnosis or treatment of obstructive coronary artery disease.

They are currently calling for outline applications over three years in one or more of their thematic ‘thrust’ areas.

  1. Thrust 1: Develop scalable approaches for diagnosis and monitoring of coronary microvascular disease.
  2. Thrust 2: Identify risk factors and evaluate prognosis of coronary microvascular disease endotypes.
  3. Thrust 3: Build and validate multi scale human-relevant models of the coronary microvasculature to interrogate casual mechanisms of coronary microvascular disease.
  4. Thrust 4: Develop treatment strategies that improve both coronary microvascular function and patient-centred outcomes.

The deadline for submissions is 9th March.
