UK Government publishes full response to O’Shaughnessy recommendations to speed up clinical trials

The UK government has published its full response to Lord O’Shaughnessy’s independent review into commercial clinical trials in the UK.

The response outlines details of how we will make it easier and faster for NHS patients to access the latest innovative treatments and make the UK one of the best places in the world to conduct clinical research. The full government response is available here.

Wales plays its part in improving clinical trials

Wales, working alongside  all the other UK nations and other key partners, are all aligned in implementing the overarching vision for the future of UK clinical research. Our shared plans for implementation have been updated to include our response to Lord O’Shaughnessy’s recommendations which will not only improve the lives of patients, people and communities though research but enhance our ability to bringing investments into the UK, helping build the economy and contribute to a dynamic life sciences sector.

Minister for Health and Social Services, Eluned Morgan said:

“Clinical research is vital as it ensures people have access to innovative studies which help to deliver better treatment and care for all.

The latest plan, which takes into account recommendations from the Lord O’Shaughnessy review sets out tangible actions, and by working with our UK partners, Wales is keen to play its part in increasing the UK’s attractiveness as a destination for life-changing research.”
